Indian pomegranate orchards – sustainable farm practices

The Pomegranate Journey

Over 4,000 years ago, the pomegranate first bloomed in ancient Persia, a jewel of nature prized for its beauty and health. Carried across lands to India, it found its perfect home in the fertile soils of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. Here, varieties like Bhagwa and Ganesh thrived, with the ruby-red, sweet Bhagwa capturing hearts around the world.

At The House of Exports, we continue this journey. From sun-kissed orchards to modern packhouses, each pomegranate is handpicked and carefully packed, preserving its natural sweetness, vibrant color, and freshness as it travels from India to the world — a true taste of heritage, excellence, and trust.

How Pomegranates are grown?

The journey begins in fertile orchards across Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. Pomegranate trees are carefully planted in well-drained soil with optimal sunlight, ensuring strong roots and healthy growth. Farmers use age-old knowledge combined with modern agricultural practices to nurture each tree.

Pomegranate trees in bloom – flowering and fruit setting phase

Flowering and Fruit Development

Bright orange-red blossoms appear, transforming into small green fruits that gradually grow in size. The fruits mature over several months, developing their signature ruby-red arils inside. This stage requires careful monitoring of sunlight, water, and nutrients to produce the best quality pomegranates.

Harvesting of Pomegranates

Once fully ripened, the pomegranates are handpicked by skilled harvesters to avoid bruising. Each fruit is carefully inspected for size, color, and firmness, ensuring only the finest make it to the next stage. This careful selection guarantees that every pomegranate maintains its premium quality.

Washing, Sorting & Grading

After harvesting, the fruits are transported to packhouses where they are gently washed to remove dust and impurities. Advanced sorting techniques separate the fruits based on size, color, and quality, preparing them for export markets.

Packaging for Export
